- Augustine Washington brought his family to Ferry Farm in 1738, a few years after establishing his iron ore business know as Accokeek Furnace. His six-year-old son, George Washington, spent his formative years here.
- Chatham Manor is an 18th century mansion that once served as the headquarters and a hospital for the Union Army's high command during the Battles of Fredericksburg.
- Belmont is also an 18th century estate that was the home and studio of American Artist Gari Melchers. It is now a historical representative of 18th century architecture as well as an art museum of Melchers' work.
